George Inness

George Inness

George Inness (1825–1894) was an influential American landscape painter known for his atmospheric and contemplative depictions of the natural world. Born in Newburgh, New York, Inness showed an early talent for art and received formal training in painting.

Inness’s style evolved over his career, but his mature work is characterized by a luminous quality, soft edges, and a sense of spiritual depth. He was deeply influenced by the philosophy of Emanuel Swedenborg and sought to convey a sense of the divine in nature through his paintings.
