Caravaggio

Caravaggio (1571–1610), born Michelangelo Merisi in Milan, was a revolutionary Italian Baroque painter known for his dramatic use of light and shadow, or chiaroscuro. His realistic approach to the human figure broke from idealized Renaissance traditions, infusing religious scenes with raw emotion and gritty realism.
