Schreyvogel, Charles

Charles Schreyvogel was a Western artist who was born on August 4, 1861, in New York City. He was the son of a German-American family and showed a keen interest in art from an early age. Schreyvogel studied at the National Academy of Design and also spent time studying in Europe.

Schreyvogel’s most famous works are his highly detailed and realistic paintings of Native Americans and cowboys in the American West. He was fascinated by the Western frontier and spent much of his career capturing the rugged beauty and harsh realities of life on the frontier. His paintings often depicted dramatic moments in Western history, such as battles between Native American tribes and settlers, or the struggles of cowboys on cattle drives.
