Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901) was a French Post-Impressionist painter, illustrator, and printmaker renowned for his vivid portrayals of Parisian nightlife. Born into aristocracy, he overcame physical disabilities to become a leading chronicler of Montmartre’s bohemian scene, capturing dancers, performers, and patrons of cabarets and cafés with bold lines and expressive color. His innovative posters and prints helped elevate commercial art to a fine art form. Influenced by Japanese prints and contemporary trends, Toulouse-Lautrec developed a distinctive style that emphasized character and movement. Despite a short, troubled life, his work remains iconic, reflecting the spirit and decadence of fin-de-siècle Paris.
