Atkinson Grimshaw (1836–1893) was a British painter celebrated for his atmospheric landscapes and urban scenes, particularly his evocative depictions of moonlit streets, docks, and suburban avenues. Born in Leeds, England, Grimshaw initially worked as a clerk for the Great Northern Railway before deciding to pursue painting full time in the 1860s, against his parents’ wishes.
