Arthur Hughes (1832–1915) was a British painter and illustrator associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Born in London, he studied at the Royal Academy Schools, where he was influenced by John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Hughes quickly developed a style marked by luminous color, delicate detail, and an emotional, poetic atmosphere that reflected Pre-Raphaelite ideals.
