Alfred Sisley (1839–1899) was a British-born French Impressionist painter celebrated for his serene and atmospheric landscapes. Born in Paris to English parents, he initially pursued a career in commerce but turned to art, studying at the École des Beaux-Arts. Sisley became a key figure in the Impressionist movement, focusing on capturing the effects of light, weather, and seasons on natural scenes. His works, such as The Bridge at Villeneuve-la-Garenne and Flood at Port-Marly, are characterized by delicate brushwork and subtle color palettes. Despite financial struggles during his lifetime, Sisley’s contributions to Impressionism remain highly regarded, with his works showcased in major museums worldwide.
