Frederick Sandys (1829–1904) was a British painter, illustrator, and draughtsman associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Born in Norwich, England, he showed early artistic promise and studied at the Norwich School of Design. Deeply influenced by the meticulous detail and moral intensity of the Pre-Raphaelites, Sandys became close to figures such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, with whom he shared both friendship and artistic rivalry.
