Edwin Lord Weeks (1849–1903) was an American painter renowned for his Orientalist art, capturing vibrant scenes from his extensive travels in North Africa, the Middle East, Persia, and India. Inspired by French academic painting, he studied under renowned artists like Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris. Weeks is celebrated for his detailed depictions of exotic architecture, bustling marketplaces, and local customs, often bathed in rich light and color. His works, such as “The Old Blue-Tiled Mosque, Outside of Delhi,” reveal both his technical skill and fascination with Eastern culture, contributing significantly to Western interpretations of the East during the late 19th century.
