Franz von Stuck (1863–1928) was a renowned German Symbolist painter, sculptor, and architect, best known for his dark, mythological themes and dramatic use of light and shadow. A co-founder of the Munich Secession, Stuck played a pivotal role in shaping early modernist art in Germany. His works often depict sensual, mystical, and allegorical figures, such as his famous painting The Sin (1893). Stuck’s style blends Art Nouveau with Symbolism, characterized by ornate, dreamlike compositions. He was also a prolific sculptor and designed his own villa, now a museum. His influence extended to later modernists, including Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
