James Jebusa Shannon (1862–1923) was an American-born portrait painter who gained prominence in England. Born in Auburn, New York, he moved to London as a teenager and studied at the Royal College of Art. Shannon became renowned for his elegant and refined portraits of British aristocracy and high society, often depicting women and children with a graceful, painterly touch. He was a founding member of the New English Art Club and a Royal Academician. His works were regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy and international salons. Shannon’s art combined technical mastery with a soft, luminous style, securing his lasting reputation.
