Kenyon Cox (1856–1919) was an American painter, muralist, writer, and educator known for his classical and allegorical style. Born in Ohio, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later in Paris, where he was influenced by French academic art. Cox was celebrated for his murals, including those at the Library of Congress and state capitols, which reflected his dedication to idealized beauty and symbolism. A prominent art critic and teacher at the Art Students League, he championed traditional art values. His works often featured allegorical themes, blending mythological and historical subjects with technical precision
