Dean Cornwell (1892–1960) was a prominent American illustrator and muralist, celebrated for his dynamic compositions and storytelling ability. Known as the “Dean of Illustrators,” he created compelling images for books, magazines, advertisements, and posters, defining the visual style of American illustration in the early 20th century. Cornwell studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York, and his mural work graces public buildings across the U.S. His bold, expressive style combined realism with dramatic narrative, influencing generations of illustrators. Cornwell’s works are noted for their rich color, technical skill, and cinematic energy.
