George de Forest Brush (1855-1941) was an American painter known for his detailed and romanticized depictions of Native American life, as well as his later works focusing on family and motherhood. Born in Tennessee and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Brush initially gained recognition for his paintings of Plains Indians, which combined ethnographic detail with a sense of nobility. Later in his career, his focus shifted to more intimate domestic scenes, reflecting his classical training and personal interests. Brush’s work is celebrated for its technical skill and ability to evoke the cultural and emotional depth of his subjects.
